The Holiday Concert

hg0088手机登陆Each December the music department ushers in the holiday season with an offering of musical splendor. Highlighted by the performance of a choral masterwork, the concert features the Small Chorus, Chapel Chorus, and Faculty & Staff Chorus. Also performing holiday selections are the Jazz Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble.

hg0088手机登陆This candlelit event invites all spectators to reflect on the beauty of the season. The whole school gathers to hear the music created by over 150 Middlesex students and teachers.

The Spring Choral Concert

The Spring Choral Concert is an opportunity for all of the choruses (Small Chorus, MXolydians, Bateman’s Bullfrogs, SWAG, and Chapel Chorus) to showcase the fruits of their labor. To contrast the Holiday Concert, the Spring Choral Concert features a lighter musical program. While still focusing on proper sound production, the groups perform music across genres, including collegiate style a cappella pop songs and folk/secular songs.

The Spring Instrumental Concert

The Spring Instrumental Concert features the music of our two curricular performing groups, the Jazz Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble. The concert represents the culmination of a year of work and practice. Audiences are sure to tap their feet to the beat of the Jazz Orchestra, and be awed by the talent of the Chamber Ensemble.

Recitals

hg0088手机登陆With over 125 students taking private lessons each week, the Winter and Spring Recitals offer a venue for these students to display their talents and their hard work. The most inspiring performers of the Spring Recitals are invited to participate in the adjudicated Thoreau Recital.

hg0088手机登陆The final recital of the year is our Senior Recital, held annually on the day before graduation. It’s a lovely, often bittersweet, way for our graduating students to bid a musical farewell to Middlesex.

A Cappella Performances

Collegiate-style a cappella is best enjoyed in an informal setting, and our a cappella groups always please their audience in the Terry Room, the school’s living room and original theatre. Maybe it’s the thrill of going out after study hours, or maybe it is being surprised by seeing your friend sing a solo, but the informal Terry Room performances offer plenty of enjoyment for all.

Freedom of Speech

Freedom of Speech is a series of student run performances taking place in the Terry Room, the school’s “living room”. This is the opportunity for budding songwriters to showcase their latest work, or where a student band can rock out to a favorite song. Friday nights are always more fun when the school gets to enjoy the musical talents of their peers.
